Abstract

Wargaming is and has been an integral part of military training, operational analysis and military planning. Narrative has been added to wargaming as a means of humanizing political conflict and global decisions. The trend continues today with military of some Western NATO countries currently adapting innovations from the hobby wargaming market into analytical tools to improve their gaming. Most of this activity is unreported outside the closed doors of the defence community. This article evaluates one example; the ISIS crisis as of 2015. This article examines the narrative methodology and analytical techniques for gaming such confrontations.
