Abstract: The work by Professor Joseph Hyde and body>data>space was commissioned by NESTA for their FutureFest showcase event in September at the Tobacco Dock, London. Attracting over 4,000 visitors, FutureFest explored aspects of life and work and how they may change in the future. Collective Reality was commissioned as the centrepiece for two of this year’s strands - ‘Future Love’ and ‘Future Play.’ The aim was to produce an immersive environment that rewards collaboration and togetherness through interaction. The large-scale installation, based on 10 channels of HD video and 16 channel sound, featured material generated purely by visitors’ movement, but only when they collaborate and move together. A succession of performances in the space throughout the event - everything from contemporary dance to freestyle football - explored this theme.
