Abstract
Moving into a new art form inevitably involves overcoming social and technical obstacles that arise when crossing artistic boundaries . The author, a composer, describes the role that Flickr played in his transition from casual photographer to photographic artist, and in so doing reveals some of the nuances of the Flickr social milieu, of the intersections amongst various communities of practice, and of potential conflicts within professional practice.
