Abstract

This essay was first delivered as a keynote speech at the Stockholm Literature Festival in November 2014. It was aired on Swedish television and subsequently reprinted in full on the front page of the Guardian Review. It examines and challenges current concepts of identity, cultural ownership and creativity.
