Lewis-Smith, C (2012) Inside the Looking Glass. In: 8th Annual TaPRA Conference, 5-7 September 2012, University of Kent, Canterbury, UK.
Abstract
This chapter examines the author’s experience of working with Dr Karla Shacklock on the ‘Beyond’ project, 12/3/12 – 20/4/12. Located in a disused pub in the City of Bristol, Beyond was a publically funded performance project drawing on Shacklock’s philosophy of ‘Beyond’ resulting in eight performances at the end of a five-week making process. Five performers with skills that included dance, music, and acting, were engaged along with a lighting designer, a scenographer and costume designer, and a creative producer. Karla Shacklock directed the work and devised the making process. The author’s role was to engage with the philosophy and process of ‘Beyond’ as a video artist. There was no set definition of the role or the outcome.
