Abstract: | The exhibition The oath of resistance presents, in resonance with the places, a corpus of works gathered around the themes of the History, the memory and the collective memory. Reconsidering episodes of great history or based on events related to more intimate and personal stories, the works presented testify to the importance of history and memory in the approach of many contemporary artists, but also the how history can be perceived, questioned or even questioned. Traditionally analyzed from the angle of the macro-history, namely a history treated in its main lines, attaching itself to the study of the masses and the classes, the historical events are also approached, from the years 1970, to through the prism of micro-history, method focusing on the particular, studying individuals, their singular and personal stories, in a concern for precision as historical fidelity. These different approaches can be found in the different approaches of artists who are questioning the shaping of history and its issues, on the construction of the notion of identity and on the weight of history in the consciousness of future generations. This exhibition is also the opportunity to inaugurate the deposit at the Charles de Gaulle Memorial in Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises of a work recently acquired by the FRAC Champagne-Ardenne thanks to the exceptional financial support of the Champagne House Taittinger. This allowed the acquisition of a painting De Gaulle's Moment (2003) by the British artist Dexter Dalwood. |
