A four-person live-art performance that references social-political uprisings, particularly May '68, to address historical and societal forms of change, as in the concept of 'event'. This work was performed live by the author along with the assistance of three students. Using sand and brooms, and texts from left-wing political and cultural figures (e.g. Marcuse, Horkheimer) the author and three assistants swept the sand into the floor of a vacated library. This action took place by starting with the defined shape of a square – echoing symbols of mathematical diagrams and also public squares – and, by sweeping this square outward, covering the entire floor of the actual space of the library. Whilst this action occurred audiences were asked to read out-loud printed pages bearing the texts.
