Tooby, M, ed. (2018) wavespeech: Edmund de Waal and David Ward - a collaborative work in context. Wunderkammer Press, Bath and Pier Arts Centre, Stromness. ISBN 9780099351147
Abstract
'wavespeech' explores a remarkable collaboration between artists Edmund de Waal, famed for his porcelain vessels and installations, and David Ward, a wide-ranging creator in paint, photography, light, and sound. Together they produced new, individually-made and interrelated works that responded not only to the architectural space of the Pier Arts Centre but also the artworks within it and the seascape and landscape of the Orkney Islands in which the gallery is located. The publication celebrates this unique collaboration, and includes a reproduction of a large scale wall text jointly conceived, as well as a sound installation and excerpt featuring readings of these passages by both artists.
