Abstract: | “What you are basically deep deep down, far, far in, is simply the fabric and structure of existence itself” - Alan WattsDeep deep down, far far in (and out) is an exhibition that presents a selection of sixteen works by twelve artists, all belonging to the collection of the Fundação Leal Rios, arranged along two floors and four environments. Deepening the relationship between two different movements, one introspective and the other expansive, the notion of focus shares the stage with the idea of inclusiveness, and each work calls for both an individual and a collective reading. Demanding attentiveness and time from the viewer, the show attempts to establish a connection between contraction and distention, exploring the nature of the individual and of the world around it. Thus, developing the concept of complementarity between opposites, according to which any given state implies the existence of its contrary, each work has its counterpart, feeding from the articulation between small and large scale, what is fixed and what is moving, what leads inward and what leads outward. The show starts at the entrance of the building, where we reinforce the dominant perspective of the space and emphasize a sense of immersion. Here, a video projection by John Wood & Paul Harrison establishes an illusion that lives from the notions of depth, movement and permanence, questioning the observer’s position and perception. Welcoming the visitor, this work marks the beginning of the show and functions as the starting point from which it will develop |
