Abstract

‘The great instrument… who, you may imagine desires ye King may be put into a condi[tion] not to want Parliamt, hee knows they are saucy things & maybe bold sometimes to inquire into ye faults & abilitys of men in power, & he has just enough wit to be sensible, he can not beare ye scrutiny. The poore man is but ye figure of A secretary… this man free from ye feare of Parliamt, he would be as insolent as he is ignorant’. The lecture explored Arlington’s relations with Parliament in light of his political career.
