This book was created from papers presented at a two-day colloquium at The Sterling and Francine Clark Institute, Massachusetts, USA, titled 'The Evolution of a Genre: History Painting, Traditional and Modern' in 2015. Dexter Dalwood was invited to deliver a keynote paper at the event which developed into his chapter. The book also features Dalwood's painting 'Bay of Pigs' (2004) on the front and back cover.
