Note: | This presents an extended analysis of the ESRC project and was a nominated output in its final research report (RES 221-25-0036). It focuses on i) the project's theoretical underpinnings and ii) the central role played by children in the research and related practical and ethical issues. We provide critical reflections on the development of the project and are able to show how the research methodology evolved to promote children's equal participation in the research process. It has relevance to an academic/research audience particularly in relation to how to approach participatory research with children. Further, it makes a contribution to a body of literature and research concerned with the development of education for sustainability and local environmental citizenship. The writing itself was undertaken by the first 3 authors. I contributed throughout the chapter, drafting text and addressing theoretical and methodological issues. Proportional contribution: 33% |
