Abstract: | Dexter Dalwood’s newest paintings reflect on ‘Non-Places’ ‘Looking and thinking, and thinking about looking. What’s presented to you as an image is not at all necessarily what’s happening internally’. ‘I thought more and more about the idea of ‘non places’: spaces which you’re in, but you have no real relationship with. There’s a kind of excessiveness of that now,’ says British painter Dexter Dalwood in a new film released to coincide with his second exhibition at Simon Lee Gallery, London. Speaking about the history of his preferred medium, Dalwood says: ‘Within the history of painting, there is very little use of interior images of any forms of transport. I was thinking where painting now sits as a medium, and its relevance now.’ ‘Looking and thinking, and thinking about looking. What’s presented to you as an image is not at all necessarily what’s happening internally.' |
