Abstract:	Kourion: Earthquake House is a series of photographs made at Kourion in south-west Cyprus – the late-Roman city, destroyed by a magnitude 8.0 earthquake on 21 July, 365 AD. This seismic rupture also caused widespread tsunami devastation across the south and eastern Mediterranean. With the support of the Cyprus Department of Antiquities, my photographs examined the site of significant discoveries made in the 1980s by the archaeologist David Soren; the bodies and artefacts that were found at Kourion; and the current archaeological excavations of intact earthquake debris, led by the Tandy Institute of Archaeology as part of the KUSP (Kourion Urban Space Project). The series also included a parallel series of photographs made at the sites of the Cyprus Geological Survey Department’s Digital Seismic Network Stations that generate seismological data on current earthquake activity from remote locations around the island. This body of work was the outcome of my participation in the Ar(t)chaeology project, an initiative by the International Association of Photography and Theory at Cyprus University for artists to enter into an international dialogue focusing on the disciplines of photography and archaeology. I was selected as a participating artist and took part in a series of online discussions with other artists and the International Association of Photography and Theory, seeking to question the parallel concerns and methodologies of each discipline and to respond to those questions in our individual practice.
