Tristram, E (2020) The tipping point of Kate Marsh: an imbalance of power in 'Life is strange' (2015) [blog post]. In Media Res.
Abstract
This article will focus on the 2015 video game release: "Life is Strange". The article will explore the shift in power between the ability to manipulate time to either halt or ignore the relentless bullying of character “Kate Marsh” by her peers and the loss of the ability to rewind time during her suicide attempt (and your efforts in trying to save her). Through this shift, the game is aiding in constructing social norms in reducing the perception of the‘normality’ of bullying, especially from peer groups. The removal of power is an integral tool in this realisation and this paper aims to explore this.
