Fragile stories (2014-2020) [REF2021 collection]

Bonnell, M (2021) Fragile stories (2014-2020) [REF2021 collection].

Item Type: Artefact
Creators: Bonnell, M
Abstract: Fragile Stories responds to self-taught Eighteenth and Nineteenth century women artists and naturalists who were predominant in producing herbariums, watercolours, and embroideries of nature, frequently considered feminine leisure activities. This research project aims not to confront the works of these women artists as stereotypically feminine but to embrace their creativity and celebrate their beauty. The works in Fragile Stories are created using typographic punctuation marks transferred into different pattern formations to form a narrative. The time it takes to produce these sequences unites the pursuit of hand-stitched needlepoint while utilising a repeated mark within a non-repeated pattern. The Collection documents a multi-component output with contextualising information, providing evidence of multiple exhibitions.
