Abstract: | The series of paintings by Dexter Dalwood that form An Inadequate Painted History of Mexico arose from a residency in Mexico in 2017, and discussions with the local community and secondary school students Oaxaca state. The paintings have been constructed in order to raise questions in the viewer’s mind: What is the history that is being depicted? Who does this history belong to? Is it possible for an artist that is not from one culture to make images that are specifically about another culture? |
