Item Type: Artefact
Creators: English, L
Abstract: The Book of Hours is a contemporary re-imagining of a Medieval book of hours, via a 'calendar' of poetry films and a collection of poetry. Medieval books of hours were collections of hand-illustrated religious readings and accompanying images, created in a transportable size so they could be carried by the owner and read on a daily basis. They can also be seen as interactive texts as these books were not intended to be read chronologically. This Book of Hours project is secular in its themes, but the general mood is contemplative and reflective. All the films have been made in collaboration between Dr Lucy English, a UK based spoken word poet and Lecturer in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University, and an international community of film makers. The poetry collection is authored solely by Dr Lucy English. This Collection represents a multi-component output with contextualising information, including as outputs the website displaying a collection of poetry films, and a collection of poetry, originally published by Burning Eye Press. A sample of poems from this collection is provided open access. Contextualising information includes articles and blogs written by the researcher, detailing methods, processes, and approaches to the work.
