Abstract: | Borderland is a Research and Development project funded by ACE. Based on the short story The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Gilman-Perkins, the project explores how the spectres of the past in the present impact our attitudes to women and mental illness. The project culminated in the performance of Borderland and a visual art exhibition at 44AD Gallery, Bath. This Collection comprises a single-component output of creative practice based research with contextualising information. The central component is Borderland, a dramaturgical project and performance, documented by an edited video of the performance and the trailer for the production edited by Fred Reed. Contextualising information includes a 300-word statement of research, Research Timeline and Research Questions, and documentation of the research and development of the project, including rehearsal. Additionally, the Collection includes an item that documents an image and a Guest Feature about Borderland that was published in Female Arts an online magazine on January 30th 2016 (authored by the researcher). Lastly, the Collection includes items that document two posters, one for the performance of Borderland, and one for the an art exhibition around Borderland which was held in the 44AD Gallery, Bath, from 26th-31st Jan 2016. |
