Lamont, B.R (2017) Sad Girl Cinema. In: Scottish Queer International Film Festival, 27 September - 1 October 2017, CCA Theatre, Glasgow, UK.
Abstract
Sad Girl Cinema is an ongoing documentary film project exploring mental health narratives in screen culture created by queer writers Claire Biddles and Bethany Rose Lamont and designed by Maggie Webster. Sorted into three themes: therapy, the mental health ward, and tortured geniuses and tragic muses, SGC navigates a whole bunch of pop cultural cliches in film, television and music videos. For SQUIFF, SGC presents a selection of clips exploring these themes through a queer lens, plus a first look at the documentary and a panel discussion on the intersection of mental health and LGBTQ+ identity on screen.
