Note: | de Warande and STORMOPKOMST present an exhibition that exudes the joy of making. The participating artists start from a fundamental urge to play. They cut, paste, carpenter, twist, build up, break down. Their work is about sanding, flirting, banging, repelling. Sometimes frolicking, frivolous and light-footed, but equally dry, straightforward and in your face. With their two hands in the clay, head in the clouds and two feet ahead, loose in the moment. Spontaneous, impulsive, direct. They make fun of the truth, mislead you as a viewer, and then push you face to face with the facts. Some make fun of it, for others it's purely about aesthetics, even some form of melancholy can be detected here and there. Although their works are often understandable at a glance and may look playful and cheerful, these artists cannot be accused of 'escapism'. Their work is uncompromising and not shy of any form of self-relativity. They take a critical stance towards the current speed of visual culture today and, while dancing, relate to art history. They bend the popular media to their will, and then abuse and oppose it. Participating artists: Mohammed Alani, Paul Casaer, Jesse Cremers, Leon de Bruijne, Willem de Haan, Nikolaas Demoen, Fleur De Roeck, Kasper De Vos, Johan De Wit, Sam Druant & Justine Grillet, John Wood & Paul Harrison, Stephanie Lamoline, William Ludwig Lutgens, Simon Masschelein, Karl Philips, Marius Ritiu, Robbert & Frank Frank & Robbert, Manon Kündig & Klaas Rommelaere, Wim T.
