Abstract: | Lucy English's poetry film collaborations with US filmmakers Pamela Falkenberg and Jack Cochran. 'Cancer Alley' combines footage shot on location in Cancer Alley, accompanied by a poem that about what it is like to live in the small towns near the Mississippi between East Baton Rouge, which are now dominated by more than 200 chemical plants and oil refineries, sometimes literally located in residents' back yards. 'I want to breath sweet air' was filmed in the Permian Basin in Texas, one of the world's largest areas of oil deposits. The film examines the impact of the oil industry on the landscape and how pockets of flower meadows and natural beauty still flourish there. The filmmakers created the film out of images taken over the last nine years. |
