Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the higher education policy context, focused on the UK and including a wider international perspective. A variety of current and emerging themes and their implications (for teachers and learners) for assessment are explored, including higher education quality assurance and regulation, tuition fees and the higher education marketplace, widening participation and transition to a higher education, students as partners and co-creators, plagiarism and contract cheating, scholarship and good practice, and learning gain.
