Abstract
This chapter explores the ‘Improvisation Skills for Teaching’ program at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). This programme supports teaching staff to develop active and emotionally inclusive learning through theatre and improvisation techniques. It encourages teachers to understand the emotional impact of their methods, encourages collaboration, and values learning through failure. The programme’s success lies in its practical focus, offering tangible tools and techniques for colleagues to use and adapt. This chapter ultimately underscores the importance of artistry in professional development initiatives for higher education teachers.
