'Hundredweight', is a 6 channel Video Installation made in collaboration with Paul Harrison. It was first shown at fa projects, London in 2003 and then (* denotes catalogue) at a solo exhibition at the Mori art Museum, Tokyo, Japan*, and in the following group exhibitions: Density+_0, Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts,Paris and tour * / Irreducible,CCA Institute, CA, USA and tour * / Drawing and Random Interference, Hayward Gallery Touring Exhibition * / Architecture of the Self, Chelsea museum of Art, NY, USA. Produced immediately after 'Twenty six' (submission one) Hundredweight consists of 36 sections shown on 6 monitors, it builds on the previous work but directly addresses painting and drawing and uses a single fixed camera position. The construction of the work and its installation conditions allow the viewer to watch all six screens at one time, but also to focus on individual actions, (linear or non linear). Using a single set with a fixed camera position allows a play between space (the architectural set) and time; all the actions take place in the same space but at different times. The overhead camera position flattens the three dimensional space reducing the architecture to a 'plan', emphasising the actions relationship to painting and drawing. The 36 sections are subdivided into six groups, lighting, drawing, static etc each one looking at a specific art historical or architectural element.
