The 10th International Biennial Print and Drawing Exhibition 2001, Taipei included the work 'David Harding 3'. The invitation to exhibit followed my prize at the 8th International Biennale.
The image used for this work came from a group of works based on the self-portrait. This image was explored in a number of ways technically and appeared in variety ways: as the image for an advertisement work in Artforum, May 1999 - a project to explore the idea of the art advertisement, which is often unidentified in terms of author or publisher; as a photograph in an exhibition with paintings prints and drawings at Diorama Gallery, London 1999; and as the front page of davidhardingart.com. This image has an intentionally humorous quality. The photographic image was subsequently transferred to a silkscreen and became the basis of another series of work, in which the combination of various technical methods is used as a means of image invention. These methods included works on canvas in which the surface was modified with oil paint and different pictorial genres were explored within one piece.
