Lalic, M (2013) The material of colour. The colour of material. In: The Materiality of Paint and Paintings (‘Jour Fixe’ series), 7 March 2013, Academy of Fine Art, Munich.
Abstract
Maria's lecture discussed ‘The Material of Colour. The Colour of Material’ in relation to her paintings, which fall into three main groups: the ‘Colour and Metal Paintings’ in which certain paints are used with the metals from which they derive; the ‘History Paintings’, in which a found Winsor and Newton paint chart, is used as a readymade for the categorization of colour by era and the ‘Landscape Paintings’ which link the name of a paint and particular landscape paintings and places. This lecture was given on the occasion of the centenary of the first lectures given by Max Doerner as Academy Professor. His book, ‘The Materials of the Artist and their Use in Painting’, pub 1921, is a seminal text.
