Note: | Poetry tour of 18 venues across the UK including Cheltenham Festival of Literature, Poetry Café, London and Midland Arts Centre, Birmingham. Fifteen minutes of new material, commissioned by Apples and Snakes (the UK performance poetry agency) and the Arts Council on the theme of "Temptation". The "Temptation Tour" featured poets from five regions of the UK. English was selected to represent the South West. Its originality consisted in English's interpretation of the theme from the viewpoint of a woman in her forties. What am I tempted by? The answer was solitude and directness of speech. It was significant in that it was the first such performance poetry event of its kind in the UK. The "Temptation Tour" combined the disciplines of poetry, theatre and performance writing. To achieve excellence of writing and performance standards English was 'mentored' throughout the tour by the poet Steve Tasane. Apples and Snakes also ran performance workshops. |
