Note: | English was invited by the British Council to perform poetry at the Buzz Festival in Sri Lanka and India. Writing workshops were arranged for audience members. English presented a series of poetry on the theme of 'Family Life" exploring her family's roots as white colonials in Colombo in the 1950's. For similar subject matter English studied the work of Jackie Kay, Patience Agbabi and Michael Ondaatje. It was significant in that she introduced performance poetry to audiences who were not familiar with this medium. Her objectives were to show audiences that family life contains recognisable elements whether British or Asian. |
