Air-filled rooms: periodicals, modernism, and the eclectic tradition

Binckes, F (2013) Air-filled rooms: periodicals, modernism, and the eclectic tradition. In: Modernist Magazines Research Seminar, 14 November 2013, Senate House, University of London.

Abstract

This paper took as its focus The London Magazine, paying particular attention to the appearance of Jean Rhys's story 'Let Them Call it Jazz' in the number for February 1962. It was argued that the London Magazine's participation in a tradition of 'eclectic' magazines was vital both to its placing of Rhys, and to its reconfiguration of its modernist inheritance.
