Educational research in transition? 'Transitionalism' in educational research

Garside, D (2014) Educational research in transition? 'Transitionalism' in educational research. In: European Educational Research Association (ECER) Annual Conference, 1 - 5 September 2014, Porto, Portugal.

Abstract

Koopman (2009) positions the concept of transition as an example of `third-wave pragmatist' thinking. In this paper I argue that transitionalism is a philosophically useful way to think about educational research, and argue that educational research should be considered a form of educational judgement having ameliorative purposes. I conclude by considering how ameliorative purposes relate to the evaluative criterion of impact.
