Abstract
This paper presents an intermedial approach to the analysis of two musical works, both of which seek to create a sonic analogue of the same Paul Klee painting: 'The Twittering Machine'(1922). Andrew May's electroacoustic composition 'Twittering Machine(after Paul Klee)' (1998), and Harrison Birtwistle's avant-garde piece 'Carmen Arcadie Mechanicae Perpetuum'(1977).
