Item Type: Book
Note:

A novel for young adults. Also published in Italy, Lithuania and Slovakia. This full-length novel explores the experience of a pregnant 15year old. Its originality consists in its content: the fictional exploration of the experience of a pregnant fifteen-year-old having to make some difficult decisions, which arose out of the author's work with young people. Its significance lies in its empathetic and non-judgemental exploration of an important contemporary issue. The author's objective was to write a realistic, vivid story addressing complex emotions in ways accessible to a teenage readership, which would be published by a mainstream publisher and achieve good sales. Rigour was addressed by Green's research of existing teenage fiction, and her interviews with staff and pupils at a Unit for schoolgirl mothers. The novel received good reviews (Bookseller; Times, Achuka; Books for Keeps; Cool_reads, J17; The Observer praised its 'subtle and precise prose … hugely engaging'. Short-listed for the Lancashire Children's Book of the Year Award.
