Abstract
This book has been written to support all those working within the Foundation Stage. Undergraduates following early childhood studies degrees or early years foundation degrees will also find it a useful resource as will practioners already working in the Foundation Stage. Initial teacher training is the start of a continuing process, desgined to support your professional development throughout your teaching career. This book will support you in identifying strengths and areas for further development, and help you meet the Professional Standards for the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Providing a combination of theoretical study and practical experiences, it will help you to develop as a reflective and critical practitioner. Recognising the variety of experiences and learning with which trainees start their courses, this book is structured around a flexible needs assessment process. This is followed by chapters with themes and activities based in Foundation Stage settings, and clearly linked to the Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage.
