Abstract
The Aboriginal opera 'Pecan Summer' was written and composed by Deborah Cheetham. It is based on the 1939 Cummeragunga walk-off - the first mass strike by Aboriginal people - when 200 residents left the mission station and crossed the Murray into Victoria. Pamela Karantonis interviewed Deborah Cheetham and Daniel Browning about the opera being performed at the 2011 Melbourne International Arts Festival.
