Simmons, B, Read, S and Parfitt, A (2026) Disabled people's lived experience of education in the UK: an evidence review. Office for Equality and Opportunity, London.
Abstract
This report reviews evidence on disabled people’s lived experience of education in the UK published between 2010 and 2021. It builds on the findings from the systematic review conducted by the Centre for Disability Studies at the University of Leeds and Disability Rights UK. The report focuses on disabled people’s experiences of education covering primary and secondary schooling; further and vocational education; higher education and lifelong learning. The evidence reviewed describes the barriers disabled people face in education. It also looks at examples of reasonable adjustments and inclusive schemes designed to improve educational experiences.
