| Note: | Opening Date: 2002-Feb-22 My work in this exhibition was a painting titled 'The District' which juxtaposed trashy and abject agglomerations of stuff (thick silicone) with cooler expanses of uninflected colour. This continued a development that examined the movement between the mark as material and as sign. The work also proposed a re-positioning of the characteristic protocols of process painting, placing them in a setting where they could be turned towards a rhetoric of infantile figuration. The research interest here focused on the openness of painting that unites a rhetoric of rigour in the guise of the chosen limits of a determinate process with a rhetoric of infantilism. |
