The Academy of Fine Art, Xi'an, China invited printmakers from Britain, France, Belgium, Germany and the USA to attend the International Printmaking Workshop there. In this Workshop visiting printmakers worked with teachers and students from the Printmaking Department of the Academy. The facilities and the different environment presented constraints and parameters which prompted working with more simplified forms than I had used previously. The resultant prints were exhibited alongside the work of staff and students of the Academy in Xi'an. The Workshop included discussions with staff and students, exploring the approaches and aims of the work of the participants. China Television recorded material including interviews with visiting printmakers, discussions of the standing of Chinese printmaking and such concepts as 'genuine','authentic' methods of making prints which have radically different significance in China and the West.
