| Abstract: | MA showcase piece that juxtaposes ballet performance with digital media. 'Afternoon of a Faun' is a commentary on how digital technologies are having an impact on live performance. In this case, the technology is a disruptive force, pushing aside traditional performance in favour of an imposing spectacle of synchronised light and sound. Performers equipped with LED jackets provide a rigid, even threatening dance against midi/DMX triggered stage lighting, that exists in sharp contrast to the delicate ballet offering. Performance conducted at Vivid Gallery, Birmingham in September 2010. |
